The Cornell Fashion Collective (CFC) hosted its 33rd annual fashion show on March 11, 2017. As an extra-curricular activity, a second-level designer has the opportunity to create two pieces for the show after completing the first level freshman year. First and second level designers have the opportunity to create whatever they desire while staying within the bounds of the overarching theme.

This year’s theme for second-year designers was inspired by melting ice caps and the fragile state of our environment. Glacial Reprise highlighted the effects of global warming through an exploration of structure and color. Our designs included lots of tulle and chiffon to represent the icy, frozen textures and waterfalls. As the models walked the runway, the color-story progressively darkened from the lightest colors of white into light blue, dark blue, and black. We aimed to mirror the effects of melting ice and flowing water to inspire reflection and introspection.

The Design Process
I digitized and laser cut my designed patterns.

The CFC asked us designers to create both looks in the same fabric for cohesion, so I chose this blue abstract jacquard with silver threads woven throughout. I used glittery tulle on both gowns and fully lined each with poly charmeuse. On one gown, I hand-sewed a crystal belt at the waistline.

My draping and fitting process for my first design.
I researched the Garment District in NYC for the perfect fabric and accessories.
