The vibe of EDM, electronic dance music, provides inspiration through its electric, free-flowing euphoria juxtaposed with geometric repetition.
I have long enjoyed EDM due to my brother’s love of listening to and creating it. I decided that EDM's style combined with bridal gowns would make an interesting juxtaposition, and I used some of my brother’s original EDM compositions for the runway show.
Repetition
EDM features geometric progressions and repetitions with the layering of different sounds. The concert strobe lights also create geometric patterns, and as they crisscross, they morph into new patterns.
Color and Light Reflection
My Key's color palette is tempered due to my bridal research. I responded to the data findings by using mostly white and ivory fabrics plus several shades of silver fabric. Reflecting light provided aspects of color from iridescent sequins, beads, and trims, symbolizing the sparkling lights of an EDM concert. In Fall 2018, I wrote and conducted a Qualtrics survey of recent brides and noted that most polled preferred a white or nearly all white or ivory gown despite available color options.
Euphoria
EDM and its concerts give some listeners a heavenly euphoria, similar to the reported feelings some grooms and brides experience at their weddings. The bride's gown is often ethereal, which furthers that correlation.
